A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
