Italy's prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, plans to auction an estimated 270 items bestowed upon her by world leaders during her travels. This unusual assortment could include gifts including a miniature chainsaw-holding statuette of Argentina's leader Javier Milei and a pair of exotic blue snake-skin shoes with gilded heels.

The collection, combined, are valued at around €800,000. They are scheduled to be put up for sale via competitive bidding by a Rome-based art dealer. The specific date is yet to be set, but the goal is to conduct the sale by year's end, with the proceeds benefiting non-profit organizations.

Storage Room Holdings

The presents reportedly locked away in a storage room on the upper level of the prime minister's official office. Reports indicate that Meloni is also intending to auction off gifts given to her political forerunners that have been stored away for years.

The detailed catalog is yet to be disclosed, but a glimpse was gleaned earlier this year when a comprehensive document of all declared gifts was reviewed by officials. The question focused on whether a statutory cap on gift value was being respected. Legally, a prime minister must declare presents exceeding €300.

• Watercolour paintings from the Moldovan government.
• An assortment including cosmetics, a skateboard, and several rugs received during trips to North African and Middle Eastern countries.

"Possibly the oddest gifts included the statuette from Milei and the blue python skin shoes," reports suggest.
