Nigel Farage Claims Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by instructing students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this negative culture.”
In response to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede dismissed the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
Reform, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Honoring a conservative activist, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. This is a huge undertaking in the UK and US.”
Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in recent years led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these excellent programs for free to every interested learner.”
