19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

The win also means the Russian has secured 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

He saved four early opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
