The star has handed over the full amount of his £25,000 Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which works to save the Britain's small music venues.

Fender was given the cheque on mid-October as his new release the album was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

He has decided to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

He also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation assisted spaces that were facing possible closure due to issues arising from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Some locations obtained funding support in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that helped performers and audiences.

"The notion that revenue from performances in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

He is among several artists to give his Mercury Prize winnings to charitable organizations.

When the band received the trophy in the year 1996 for their album Different Class, frontman Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

"Additionally, I gave a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," she shared with the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the youth organization that developed their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients they contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was found to have the condition.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," stated artist Small. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had saved several local spots in south-east England, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the other in the city were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by a national body and supporters who buy "stakes" in the venues.
