Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position after another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
