It's a challenge for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a team that has achieved everything.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batters to possess a record if not afforded the chance.

Finally, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving a platform to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her bow and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Many contend the argument supporting championship match pressure. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it was a frustrating experience because it appeared I've had no rhythm whatsoever," said Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature take over and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off the opening delivery and from that point the batsman was underway.

"A chance to go out there and face the challenge with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

When she was out Australia needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the belief to do that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if necessary, we are confident we can succeed."

These statements will be the final thing rival teams at this championship should hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory following win against Pakistan by 107 run margin despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated through the pain.

But while she later admitted those injuries have delayed plans to retire, this tournament is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as skipper.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
