The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
